About your Piano
Tuning - Pitch
How often?
Once a year is good, every 6 months is ideal.
What to expect?
It takes 1.5 - 3 hours depending on the condition of the piano to do any minor repairs and a tuning.
A tuner will need to consult with you at the beginning of the tuning. And at the conclusion, the piano will be reassembled and the tuner will apprise you of the condition of your instrument.
Tone - Voicing
Does your piano sound brighter, more harsh, than when you first began playing it?
This can be adjusted through something called “voicing”. The hammers can be softened or hardened to alter the tone of the piano using specially designed needles, sandpapers, or hardners.
Touch - Regulation
Can you control every single key when playing very softly? Do they all “feel” the same”?
There are around 50 interacting pieces to each key on the piano. Over time they can get out of alignment, or worn. This process in part includes leveling the keys, doing appropriate lubrication, ensuring the various parts are releasing quickly, and returning correctly at the right time…in other words, your piano gets a thorough tune-up. It is recommended that a piano be regulated every 5-10 years.
